Other competitions

It’s not just the best livestock that are judged at the Royal Highland Show. The finest foods, traditional skills and show jumping are also assessed with the winners receiving highly coveted prizes.

Competition Classes

• Farriery classes take place each day in the purpose built forge - a great spectator event. There is no extra charge to view the farriery competitions which can be seen at the West side of the Showground.
• The Honey Marquee is literally a ‘hive of activity’ with competitive classes for jars of honey, honeycombs, beeswax and baking. Pop into the marquee during the Show to see demonstrations, talks and live bees, too.
• The all-action Sheep Shearing competitions are fiercely fought with competitors from around the world taking part. The covered marquee in front of the Shearing Theatre will keep you sheltered all day long whilst you watch the competitors in action.
• The Dairy Products classes include cheese, butter and ice cream – watch the judging live in the Food Hall and see who is claiming the awards after judging when the winners are announced.
• The Show Jumping classes attract many famous names in the sport from across the UK. Jumping take place in the main arena as well as in the equestrian ring. These can be viewed in the main ring from the Grandstand - watch the competitions from the best seat in the house without it costing you a penny more.
• The Handcrafts Pavilion displays a wide rang of entries including stick-making/crooks, handspinning, weaving, dyeing and embroidery. The work of master crafts people from across the world can be viewed in the Pavillion throughout the Show.
• The NSA marquee will house the wool from the Fleece Competition. Pop in to see the wide array of colours and textures of wool from Britain's top wool producers
• In the Countryside Area, you will hear it before you see it, is the Poultry Marquee! Housing several hundred birds on the Saturday and Sunday of the Show (display birds only Thursday and Friday) you will be able to marvel at the vast array of feathered competitors
