Judges Announced For 2014 Royal Highland ShowTuesday December 03rd 2013
The organisers of the Royal Highland Show have announced the judges for the 2014 event.
Supported by RBS, the show will take place at the Royal Highland Centre, Ingliston, Edinburgh, on June 19-22.
The task of placing around 5000 head of the country’s top cattle, sheep and horses will be in the hands of experts from all over the UK and Ireland, including one judge from France – Yves Lacroix of Mirecourt, who will place the Texels.
The overall supreme champion will be selected by Ian Anderson, Dalcrest, Cumnock, while in the diary rings Gavin Lawrie, Brieryside, Sandyford, Monkton will decide on the overall champions.
Other inter-breed beef judges include: team championship - Friar Thomson, Balymyle, Meigle; beef breeder and junior inter-breed - Robert Adam, Newhouse of Glamis, Forfar; beef pairs – David Murray, Wolflaw, Forfar.
In the sheep lines, the challenge facing Angus Kennedy, Broughton, Biggar will be to choose an overall individual champion from some 24 breeds, with the pairs and young handlers judged by Allan Wight snr, Midlock, Crawford.
In light horses, Joyce Coltart The Stables, Tour, Kilmarnock will be judging The Queen’s Cup.
As a reflection on the popularity of the HOYS Mountain and Moorland Under Saddle qualifier, the show has split the section into small and large breeds and appointed four judges as opposed to the usual two.
Also new for this year’s show will be a HOYS qualifier for Part Bred Arab and Part Bred Welsh Ponies – a coup for the Royal Highland Show. Judges will be announced in due course for this.
