Royal Highland EDUCATION Trust - Best in Class!

RHET aims to provide the opportunity for every child in Scotland to learn about food, farming and the countryside, and to create a wider understanding of the environmental, economic and social realities of rural Scotland.

The Royal Highland Education Trust (RHET) Children's Discovery Centre is based in Avenue Q of the showground. The centre is run by the Royal Highland Education Trust (RHET) and open to anyone and everyone, offering a range of fun, interactive and hands-on activities for children of all ages.   The Centre is open to school parties (in addition to the public) on Thursday 21st and Friday 22nd June 2012. Find out more about RHET in Scotland

The RHET education programme is available to booked school and nursery groups, and offers:
  • Bookable education programme sessions
  • Interactive learning
  • Educational drop-in activities
  • Guided tours
  • Curriculum-linked education packs
On arrival at the show, booked school groups are greeted by RHET staff and volunteers, who will ensure you find where you need to be as quickly as possible.

Groups have the option of a guided tour of the showground with one of our RHET volunteers and learn all about the different attractions, or head straight to the RHET Children's Discovery Centre to get stuck-in to your chosen activities.  Our tours can be tailored to meet your specific needs, however there is no obligation to participate in RHET activities should groups wish to enter as a school party and follow their own programme.

RHET staff and volunteers are on hand to guide and assist with activities, and RHET are extremely grateful to their dedicated team of volunteers and activity providers who give up their time for education at the Royal Highland Show.  Their expertise and enthusiasm is gladly shared with the children who visit the Dobbies Children's Discovery Centre, either as members of the public or in a school party.

2012 Show host area - Dumfries & Galloway - Royal Highland Show 2012

2012 Show host area - Dumfries & Galloway

Show host area 2011-2012 is Dumfries and Galloway.  The Society’s President and four Vice Presidents this year, are therefore all from the region.

Had the Royal Highland Show still been staged at locations across Scotland, as it had from 1822 until 1960, then it would have been held in Dumfries and Galloway. There were eight regions that took turn to stage the Show and the spirit of this is enshrined in the election of a Presidential Team from the Host Area performing a range of duties during their year in office.

The President of the Royal Highland Society this year and for Show 2012 is The Rt Hon Alex Fergusson MSP (former Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament) who, along with his team of four Vice Presidents comes from the Dumfries and Galloway region. The Vice Presidents are, Andrew Campbell, Margaret Kingan, Daivd Roberts and John Ross.

Charolais Cattle - World Congress at 2012 Show

Charolais Cattle Society will be holding its World Congress at the 2012 Royal Highland Show.

One of the most prominent continental cattle breeds, the Charolais, will be foregrounded at the 2012 Royal Highland Show when the Breed Society will be holding its World Congress.  We are privileged to have such an event take place within the Royal Highland Show and are confident that Charolais Cattle Breeders from across the world will enjoy the setting, traditions and history of Scotland's national agricultural show.

The proximity of Edinburgh to the Royal Highland Centre is a great advantage and we hope that visitors from overseas will be able to enjoy the sights, sounds and range of cultural events on offer in our historic capital, while they are in Scotland.
